Internet Marketing Expert Series: The Genius Of Social Networking

July 25, 2008 by admin · 3 Comments

Okay - now, you guys are really in for a treat.

Recently, I was on a Justin.TV streaming show with Alejandro Reyes, a social marketer. I asked the question “How Do You Make Friends” and since it is a modeling question, I didn’t expect Alejandro to be able to answer that question the way everyone could have received and repackaged in their brain.

In truth, it’s not that difficult to make friends. There are strategies for doing this, and I’ll list a few of them. I’d like to re-organize Alejandro’s answer a bit. He said “be myself, don’t send emails, don’t be annoying, just add value”.

Social Media Marketers

Hey everyone, I came across this article, and I think it will be brilliant for you to read it, even though it is extremely long, filled with lots of good content and will help you to understand what social media marketing entails.

(why do I suddenly feel like I’m on Twitter even though I’m on a blog??)

TwitterTools Plugin: Grab it now

I tested this new plugin, and I think it’s great. Of course, you will only know the leverage if you are using Twitter. I’ve blogged about some social media, so you ought to read under the “Traffic” category to learn more, including my interview summary with Mark Davidson.

Social Media Conversation With Mark Davidson, ShiftPlusOne.com

I had the good fortune of having Mark Davidson on an interview with me. Unfortunately, the recording didn’t go through the way I wanted, and I managed to catch a snippet from the middle of the conversation (which is WHY I tell people you have to be on these calls with me).

Mark is a marketing consultant, but more importantly, uses social media as the main thrust. One thing that got me thinking was when he was able to generate 1,000 followers on Twitter within a short span of a few weeks. It blew my mind, and I realized that the reason why he was on Twitter was very much different from why I was on.

Compiling 101 Twitter Resources

Hey everyone, I decided that I’d compile Twitter Resources. I noticed that Steven Snell blogged this, but there are a few on the list that is missing:

www.TwitterDeck.com - desktop application by Adobe. Can queue your posts if Twitter is down.
www.Twhirl.com - a desktop Twitter application.
www.Ping.FM - social submission aggregator
www.FriendFeed.com - posts Tweets on Facebook and other feeds.
www.TweetLater.com - auto accepts friends and schedules posts for future use.
www.Flock.com - a social browser that a Mac can use.

OKay… so we are talking about numbers and mass marketing again?

ThePuck talks about the New FriendFeed Killer. In my opinion, the fact that there are more and more social sites with the need to log-in and/or register for them truly makes socializing a very, very tiring thing.

It’s almost like going to every pub or club every night and trying to make friends… not only will you be boozed out, you’d have very little meaningful social contact. I suppose if this is an attempt to mimick real social contact, it would mean we need more skills socially than to have more accounts to set up.

More Plurkers On The Way?

TwisterMC wrote about Plurk as well, outlining the advantages of Plurk over Twitter. Thomas also outlined some useful Plurk Resources:

Plurkerati
Plurkerati - Tracking Plurkers and a nice Plurk search.

Plurkable
Plurkable - Plurk news & tips.

Plurktionary
Plurktionary - All things Plurk.

Plurkular
Plurkular - Plurk news, apps, plurkers and more.

Also, more reviews on Plurk here.

There’s also a PlurkCast happening. It promises to have a lot more information and fun stuff happening in the Plurkiverse. Geez… seems like I’ve stepped into a completely new universe, and this, in my opinion, is extremely intriguing.

Social Media Update: Friendster

July 5, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

I’ve always felt that Friendster was a backburner in many cases, and it doesn’t have the appeal I have for Facebook, largely because Friendster’s “friends” don’t really talk back to you. Maybe that was then. This round, I was a little intrigued that the grand-daddy of social networks has sort of raised the bar a little. Enough for me to go in and take a look. It’s also propped up by this Channel News Asia report, especially for the new SMS technology they have integrated. Now that’s going to be an interesting leveling factor. Anyone want to join me on Friendster? www.Friendster.com/stuarttan. :)

Internet Marketing Newbies: What NOT To Do On Facebook

July 4, 2008 by admin · 3 Comments

A large number of people on Facebook are now using it for promotional purposes. Of course, this means that there is going to be a whole ton of promotional email that inundates your inbox.

If you’re a well-respected internet marketer, I don’t mind receiving some occasional emails from you. But if you are someone whom I do not know, you’d better be careful because there are many times where you will lose friends.
